Photo-Copy
September 17 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

For the second chapter of the Serendipity Arts Foundation’s new initiative #BeyondSerendipity, the Foundation has joined hands with Kolkata Centre for Creativity (KCC) as its regional partner to showcase the theatrical production ‘Photo-Copy’, which was first presented at the Serendipity Arts Festival 2022 edition in Panjim, Goa. Directed and Written by Niketan Sharma, the play will be showcased in the city on September 16 and 17.
The production ‘Photo-Copy’, commissioned by Serendipity Arts Foundation, was first showcased at the Festival’s 2022 edition. Directed and Written by Niketan Sharma, the play unravels the journey of dealing with grief. The narrative focuses on a family of four, who grapple with the irreparable loss of losing the head of their family. The central motif of the production captures a whirlpool of emotions each family member experiences in the absence of a husband and a father.
“Generally, families don’t talk about their emotions of losing a family member. The multitude of feelings the grieving person(s) experience are often brushed under the carpet. This play has a universal theme that would resonate with audiences across cities. As a result, we aren’t making any such changes in the original script while bringing it to Kolkata,” says Niketan Sharma.
Talking about creative synergies that brought SAF and KCC together for the second leg of #BeyondSerendipity, Ms. Smriti Rajgarhia, Director, Serendipity Arts Foundation & Festival, says, “With #BeyondSerendipity, we are hoping to facilitate cultural exchange between cities and among new audiences. The holistic idea of the Serendipity Arts Festival has always been to promote cultural exchange, artistic collaboration, and the appreciation of diverse art forms, ultimately contributing to a more vibrant and interconnected arts community.”
“We are delighted to have joined hands with a like-minded partner –KCC—whose underlying ethos is anchored in supporting art and creativity in their myriad forms. This cross-pollination of creative partnerships enriches the local art scene,” she added.
“I am elated that Kolkata Centre for Creativity is hosting ‘Beyond Serendipity’ – marking the first collaboration between the festival and our city, Kolkata. At KCC, we are keen on the interconnectedness between the arts and our efforts have always extended beyond the space through travelling exhibitions, performances, and participation in art fairs. We genuinely make interactivity and inclusivity play a major role in everything we conceive, collaborate on, and create,” says Richa Agarwal, Chairperson, Kolkata Centre for Creativity.
“We look forward to an overwhelming response from the audience as this partnership has initiated a new arena for cultural exchange with Serendipity Arts Foundation. As an interdisciplinary institution, it is a matter of great pleasure and privilege for us to be associating with South Asia’s largest arts festival,” she adds.
