মৌন মুখরতা / Silent Vision

July 29 @ 11:00 am - August 19 @ 7:00 pm

‘Silent Vision’ is an exhibition of award-winning contemporary artist, Suman Chandra. Recipient of CIMA Award 2022, he has studied art from Santiniketan. From 29th July to 19th August 2023, the exhibition will be held at CIMA Gallery in Kolkata. His inspiration behind this exhibition are the materiality, dangers and risks of coal mines. In this exhibition, his paintings show the devourment of ground and the cruelties within through pictorial landscapes. He uses charcoal, coal dust, graphite and mud mainly in his paintings.
His works are the result of his continuous field trips and extensive research conducted in coal mine areas. This interest and research on coal mines started in 2015, during his MFA in Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan. Upon his initial visits, he was mesmerized by the vast, black landscape that struck him as dangerous yet beautiful. The texts by art writer Siddharth Sivakumar add a layer of depth to the artworks on display and enrich the experience of the viewers.
